This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Great news! My spectacular students have developed a love of reading and writing! However, they have also developed "back problems" due to the limited number of comfy places to read during our Reader's and Writer's Workshop.

I am the Reading Intervention teacher at a fantastic urban school in a working class community.

Nearly 100% of the students are on free or reduced lunch and most are English language learners. Nearly all of my students are native Spanish speakers. They are a great group of kids that are always eager to learn new things and share them with everyone they know.

My Project

My students currently rotate turns sitting in the two, moribund bean bags we received from generous donors a few years ago. Students get to sit in the coveted bean bags about once a month if they are lucky! We are in desperate need of other places in our room where they can snuggle up with a good book. I've already done the hard part (teaching them how to read and write and to love it too!) now I just need some great donors to provide the beanbags and pillows!!

My students can not wait for their turn in one of our special reading and writing spots.

Please help fill my room with even more special places to relax and learn. These bean bags and pillows will be a gift for years to come!
