My students need a celebratory lunch to honor the hard work they put into competing at the Special Olympics Skills Day.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The students in my class are the hardest-working students in all of San Francisco Unified School District. To a student, they work really hard in every challenge we put before them. At Special Olympics this determination is evident in full glory!
We are a class of 7 severely impaired, non-verbal students and their 7 teachers, with our very own classroom nurse to attend to students medical needs like G-tube feedings and seizure monitoring.
Like their typically developing peers, our students LOVE a challenge, be it classroom pre-academics, during their physical or occupational therapy sessions, or out in the mainstreaming environment or community. Many of the students at our school, more than 70%, receive free or reduced lunch, and we are a school with lots of Newcomers, or students who have been in this country less than 2 years. Our school is a busy, bustling dynamic place with dramatic successes occurring every school day.
My Project
Our students will enjoy lunch with their peers after having competing at the city's big Track and Field Stadium. We will set up a table in our classroom complete with table cloth and food to suit every eating ability level. As students dine, the lead teacher will announce and present awards to all students.
This project makes all the difference in the world by honoring the work students put into competing in the Special Olympics Skills Day.
Students enjoy being the center of attention, as well as the applause and congratulations that comes to all students as they receive their awards in front of teachers, nurses, administrators, therapists, peers from other classrooms, and families.
