My Students

Whew! I just finished my 24th year of teaching. I come from a family of teachers. My mom, dad, and three of my five children are teachers, not to mention my two daughters-in-law! One of my sons even teaches a Financial Literacy Class at our Jr. High. I am an ATPE teacher from East Texas. Teaching is a very rewarding job, one of the best in the world. I feel blessed to have this opportunity to serve as a teacher.

We are a family at BES!

This year I have 13 girls and 8 boys in my class. This includes 2 special needs students. My students come from a socioeconomicly disadvantaged district. Many of my students receive free breakfast and lunch - it is a luxury. Some, even receive food “backpacks” for the weekends. We also have a growing Hispanic population. But we are proud to say, through hard work and lots of care, our district has had a 100% graduation rate.

My students feel loved. Tolerance and acceptance is something that is fostered everyday. We live in a small rural community and continue to support former students through school activities such as sports, band and other district activities.

My Project

My special need students love working with manipulatives during our Math lessons and to read from our class library during Reading class, but we have no way to organize our materials and books. It is sometimes difficult for my special babies to find what they need, when they need it. The storage bins will allow us to organize our materials and books and make much better use of them. They will easily be able to see what materials we have for each lesson without having to empty boxes and cabinets constantly. These materials will allow my SN students to have access to our classroom materials whenever they need them. They will no longer have to wait for me to dig them out. I can organize and divide my class library books so they can actually see the books. I can put them in the right levels, so they can search for books by levels. The ink will be used to label bins with easy to read picture labels.

Our special friends need special storage!

These bins will allow our classroom to use the materials we have, help us organize our books. Also, the students will be able to determine what we have and easily get them out for our lessons. Students will have more hands-on opportunities in Math and will be able to find the book that is "just right" for them with ease. Please consider helping us organize to learn.
