Special Needs Students Sharpening Skills Through Art
My students need canvases and easels for art therapy projects to develop their confidence, self-esteem, self expression, and fine motor skills.

My Students
Every child is an artist, Pablo Picasso said, and my special needs students truly love art. However, completing a simple painting can be challenging due to poor gross and fine motor skills and challenges with visual perception.
My students range in age from Pre-school to High School.
I travel to a number of different schools and the children that I see for occupational therapy have diagnoses such as Cerebral Palsy, Autism, Down Syndrome, and learning disabilities. They are hard workers, always giving their best effort.
My Project
My students have recently started painting on canvas. They absolutely love looking at images of people, houses, and animals, and attempting to recreate those images on canvas. Although we have plenty of paint, the canvases are very expensive and our school is unable to purchase them. We also do not have any easels, which would make painting much easier for the students.
When the students express themselves through painting, it is very therapeutic and improves their self-confidence, fine-motor skills, social interaction, confidence, and attention span.
We are very excited to complete this project and work on so many of the students' skills at the same time!
