My Project

As an educator in a Special Needs Classroom, I am committed to creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment. I am seeking funding to establish a sensory room equipped with flexible seating and calming sensory tools, including a bubbling water panel, for our special needs education classroom. This space will serve as a sanctuary for students with disabilities, offering them the tools to self-regulate, manage sensory input, and enhance their learning experiences. Our goal is to support every student’s ability to thrive academically, emotionally, and socially.

Students with disabilities often experience sensory processing challenges that impact their ability to focus, communicate, and feel safe within a traditional classroom.

These difficulties can result in emotional distress, behavioral issues, and academic setbacks. Currently, we do not have a space designed to support students in managing sensory overload or calming heightened emotions. This gap limits our capacity to fully address our students’ individual learning and behavioral needs.

This space will include flexible seating options—such as floor pillows, wobble stools, and bean bags—as well as sensory tools and installations designed to provide soothing visual, auditory, and tactile input. A central feature will be a calming bubbling water panel, which offers gentle visual movement and ambient sound proven to help students with autism, ADHD, and anxiety find calm and focus. This feature, along with other sensory tools, will help reduce stress, support emotional regulation, and provide a peaceful retreat when needed. Flexible seating will also be integrated into our main classroom environment to allow students to choose seating that best supports their physical and sensory comfort during instructional time.

We can significantly enhance the learning experience for students with disabilities. This project will not only address sensory and emotional needs but also create a more inclusive, empathetic, and effective educational environment.
