This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students have intellectual disabilities, but that just means they need different types and levels of support to make progress. First and foremost they are typical kids in almost every way. They are able to learn and demonstrate progress when they have the right level of support and the tools they need to engage in learning activities. For instance, they may not be able to write sentences, but give them a sentence template and picture symbols and they can construct sentences just like their typically developing peers.
The reason iPads are perfect for these wonderful kiddos is that it engages them visually, through auditory, and through touch.
The screen can be locked through the guided access feature so they can’t navigate away from the application they are working on. This becomes a meaningful learning activity they can do independently.
