Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
The current employment rate for young adults with special needs is only 21%. This means that these individuals require assistance in gaining job skills to become employed. Many young adults with special needs find it challenging to secure and maintain jobs due to the lack of both soft and hard skills. Therefore, it is essential to equip them with these skills to make them more employable. We can provide workstations, communication skills training, and work quality monitoring to help them acquire the necessary abilities. Our students will make various handmade items such as candles, key chains, coasters, and many more. They will also conduct inventory, set sale prices, and sell their wares at local fairs in the community. They will learn how to communicate effectively, seek help when needed, maintain the quality of work, and call in when absent.
Currently, we have students with autism, blindness, intellectual disabilities, wheelchair and dyslexia multiple disabilities.
Without explicit job training, they will not have an opportunity to be like their non-disabled peers. This can affect their self-confidence and their ability to make friends.
By providing job training, our students not only receive job skills but they will also walk away with skills to create homemade crafts they can sell on their own and become the boss. Thank You
