Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Our school is a multicultural, multi-racial pre-K through 5 elementary school. The majority of students we serve are from families who live at or below the poverty level. A small number of students reside in temporary housing provided by a neighborhood shelter. The Library at PS16 was totally renovated and re-opened in 2004. It now serves as the hub of literacy development in the school. The students are able to visit the library independently throughout the day as well as with their classes for group activities including research projects, book talks, etc. Two digital cameras that helped to document student work disappeared during renovations to the building. We have since then secured another area to house electronics from the library. At this time, we ask for a digital camera with a memory card. The camera will be used by myself, the librarian, as well as the students. Photos of the children’s work are shared with other students in displays and on our school website. The camera is also used to document presentations of completed projects. The children are so pleased to be able to display their hard work throughout the building. Please help us spread the news.
