My Students
Can you imagine not being able to read? My students struggle with learning to read using traditional approaches. Due to their challenges with learning, they need a multi-sensory approach for reading instruction. Learning to read will open doors and provide opportunities for these special students.
My students have a variety of special needs.
Many of them are diagnosed with autism, and some have cerebral palsy, Down Syndrome, and learning disabilities. They work hard and give their very best effort, but they need specialized materials and instruction to reach their full potential.
My Project
Jolly Phonics is a fun and child centered approach to teaching literacy through synthetic phonics. The program provides actions for each of the 42 letter sounds which makes the multi-sensory method very motivating for children and teachers. Research reveals that a multi-sensory approach to reading instruction is effective for students with special learning needs. The colored overlays and information book with benefit my students with perceptual challenges while learning to read.
By learning to read, these special students can be productive and feel good about themselves as well.
The ability to read will afford them many opportunities and increase their independence on a daily basis.
