My Students

Albert Einstein quotes, "The mind that opens to a new idea never returns to its original size." Therefore, my goal is to provide my diverse learners with meaningful projects and instructional resources to address the disabilities that impede their learning such as Attention-Deficit, Dyslexia, Social-Emotional, and Autism. Their past experiences of failure in school have outweighed their successes as they also deal with social-economic ills within their communities, making the burden to learn more difficult.

Nevertheless, in spite of their circumstances, my students are inquisitive, creative, hopeful and eager to come to school- their safe haven; therefore, they know that their teacher holds their minds dear to her heart and will continue to discover innovative ways to challenge them to think and learn!

Aligning each student to the appropriate instructional resources, my students can grasp concepts through a combination of visual stimuli and usage of hands-on materials as well as respond to intervention through interactive, arts-infused, project-based, hands-on learning activities. With time and investment in exploring how they learn, my students will leave my classroom with a newfound growth mindset!

My Project

My students for the upcoming school year are diverse learners who read two to three years below grade level. Due to learning deficits, reading is seen as a chore and is deemed frustrating as their brain struggles to make sense of how letters form sounds and how to pronounce a combination of sounds to form words.

Once I was informed that by the time a minority child completes the third grade and is unable to read and write, statistics suggest that a life of poverty and crime is their fate, I have made it my mission to ensure my students leave my room with improved reading skills.

I have selected the Failure Free Reading Online Student Seat License (12 months) to support my students who are non-readers to gain word attack skills and learn to red at their own pace. Other resources include First Little Readers - Complete Library, Ready-to-Go Differentiated Literacy Centers: Grade 2: Engaging Centers Designed to Help Every Student Meet the Common Core, Close Reading Comprehension Teaching Center, Boost Comprehension, Small-Group Teaching Center, Sound-It-Out Phonics Puzzles, Word Building Tiles, Learning Resources Sight Word Swat a Sight Word Game and Dyslexia Reading Rulers. High-Interest Intervention Reading Folders will track my students' progress. Thank you for supporting diverse learners who struggle to learn to read!
