Special Education Students Want to Know Where Santa Lives!

My project needs one Talking Globe to create endless opportunities for exciting learning in the area of geography!

Hi, I am the special education teacher in a first grade inclusion class. I have sixteen children in my class. Five of these children have been classified as having disabilities including speech and/or language delays and learning disabilities. We are a Title I, early-childhood center. Approximately seventy-five percent of our students receive free lunch. During the holiday season, there was a lot of talk in our classroom about Santa Claus. One curious student asked where Santa lived. Another student answered him, saying "The North Pole." However, not one child in our class could actually figure out where the North Pole is. A great way to solve this problem would include a donation of an informative and interactive globe. A Talking Globe would create many opportunities for geographic learning. When students touch different areas of the globe, a wonderful voice tells the students the name of the place they touched. While this would help increase geographic skills, it will also increase my students' speech and language abilities. The fun and interaction that will occur with this Talking Globe will create great opportunities for language as students will communicate their new excitement and knowledge with their peers and teachers.
