Special Education Students Need Effective Resources

My Project

Many students are tactile and hands on learners. I teach Special education in a small school district, after the pandemic my caseload has increased to my limit. I have students who range in age from third grade to tenth grade. However, most of the students are at the reading level between second to fifth grade. I have students with traumatic brain Injury, dyslexia, cognitive processing disorder, as well as many others. I use all of my spare time at school and many of my nights at home preparing and making worksheets and hands on learning activities for my students.

Many of the students are tactile learners, therefore they learn better with any Hands on Learning such as the Versatiles.

I have one set of tiles and share them with all students. I would like for each student to have their own set to use. The Versatiles would be a great improvement to my program as well as the 180 Days series. These books are great at reviewing concepts already covered, as well as identifying an area of concern. I like the fact that they are available in reading, math and science. The science books are a great asset due to the fact that science is harder for students who are already struggling to read. But if I am able to give them a little bit of science every day, they would hopefully enjoy it and learn the vocabulary to use as they get older. Since the pandemic science and math scores have lowered Nationally. I want to help my students learn so they can stay above the average that is dropping. Many of my students learn at a different rate than those in regular education. I need more resources to help them succeed and give them a bright future.
