This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach ninth through twelfth grade special education students who range from emotionally disturbed to having learning disabilities. I work for the NYC Department of Education and teach high needs students in the South Bronx. These students have changed my life as they come from the most horrific life backgrounds and they still persevere to bring the very best to my classroom and broader community. I want to return the favor by giving them basic resources that will undoubtedly prepare them for life after high school. These Chromebooks will make a tremendous difference in the way they learn and interact with one another.

My Project

The world of education is changing and my students are being left behind with outdated resources.

Since we are a Google School, students have all the apps from Google including Google Drive and Sites but have no working laptops to take advantage of these resources.

The learning becomes student-centered where students can have twenty-four/seven access to create, collaborate or reflect on a shareable, editable platform between me and their peers. I become a facilitator with the addition of these Chromebooks, and students take ownership of their own learning.

Having these Chromebooks, a speaker, sleeves and headphones for my special needs students, is a game changer for their education.
