Special Education Needs Technology!

My students need technology in their classrooms, specifically a projector to connect to a laptop.

My Students

Remember those old-school over-head-projectors with transparencies? You know, the ones with the lightbulbs? They rattle and hum and the longer they are on, the louder the rattling and humming becomes? I have one of them in my classroom an entire 20+ years after I've finished schooling myself.

My students are in the second, third and fourth grades in a self-contained Special Education classroom.

They attend a small, public school with tight budgets all across our district. Tight budgets or not, my students come to school every day to learn and I come to teach. With the proper tools and attitude, the sky is the limit!

My Project

The same exact technology that was in my classroom 20+ years ago as a student is what I am using in my classroom today as a teacher. But now, the over-head projector that I wheel out is a little more rusted. Let's face it. I don't consider that over-head projector as having "technology" in my room and it hardly gets used. Having a projector that I can hook up to my laptop would change the way in which I teach. My students are bright eyed and bushy tailed when I pull out my laptop and we all gather around to watch a news clip. Keep in mind, it's just a laptop and I have up to 15 students in my room circled around that laptop. We try our best to not push and shove but there is a lot of, "Yeah, but I can't see. I can't hear. It's not fair." It breaks my heart because I agree. It is not fair.

Having a projector will allow my students to be able to really understand the lessons, watch videos from Discovery Kids, watch a PowerPoint created by their peers, and participate in their education with using technology.

Technology is a large part of teaching today and I will be able to create fun and exciting ways for them to be engaged in their learning. Please consider helping my Special Education Classroom.
