My Project
I teach a vibrant and unique group of early education students with severe autism and intellectual disabilities. Each day, they come to school eager to engage with the world in their own way—through touch, sound, movement, and connection. While their learning paths may look different, their desire to grow, connect, and succeed is just as strong.
In our special education classroom, we work hard to meet each child where they are.
But that means needing a variety of tools, such as flexible seating, sensory lights, light cover, more to help regulate emotions, encourage communication, and support learning. Many of my students are nonverbal or have limited verbal abilities, so we use alternative ways to express needs and emotions. With the right resources, these incredible children can learn to communicate, build social skills, and make meaningful academic progress.
Unfortunately, these specialized materials are often costly and not always provided by the school system. That’s where your support can make a life-changing difference.
