Special Education Classroom - Therapeutic Games

My students need educational and therapeutic games designed to teach proper social and emotional skills. I've selected a variety of games (Stop, Relax and Think; Ungame; Totika; Social and Emotional Competence Game; Fitness Dice; The Impulse Control Game).

My Students

Imagine feeling like an angry volcano, on the verge of erupting! Imagine feeling that way constantly in your primary years of schooling but would give anything to feel "normal."

My students struggle with anxiety disorders, conduct disorders, and a variety of other emotional disturbances.

Many of my students have experienced traumatic events already in their young lives. However, in the end, they are children who show up to school every day willing and eager to learn.

My Project

I've selected a variety of games (Stop, Relax and Think; Ungame; Totika; Social and Emotional Competence Game; Fitness Dice; The Impulse Control Game) that are therapeutic and educational that target specific areas in which my students struggle the most. The games I've selected will teach empathy, communication, self-awareness, social awareness, self-management, responsible decision-making and relationship skills. The games I've selected will also help teach specific skills to help students control impulses, make good decisions, and avoid actions that are detrimental to themselves and others. Also, because I want the biggest bang for every dollar donated to this project, I was sure to not only carefully pick each therapeutic game but also find a vendor who bundled 4 of the games at one price!

This project is important because the games I've selected will explicitly teach emotional and social skills that most of us take for granted.

These games will help teach my students skills that they will then have in their emotional and social skills tool box for life.
