it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Writing can be a scary task, especially for our children with special needs. It doesn't have to be that way! Helping these children learn to write for functional and practical purposes will help them become more independent.
My school faces many challenges, including a lack of funding and a high number of at-risk students.
It is located in an economically disadvantaged neighborhood. I teach a moderate/severe special education class with a focus on community-based instruction for high school students. My students have moderate to severe disabilities ranging from Autism to Intellectual Disability. All of them, except for one, receive reduced or free lunch. Although the odds are stacked against them, they are eager to learn and become independent individuals.
My Project
Learning to write is an essential skill all students should learn, but it is hard to acquire when a child has a disability. My students' disabilities heavily impede their ability to understand the concept of proper spacing. As a result, improper spacing on writing tasks makes it difficult for my students to convey their ideas/thoughts to the readers. This can be extremely frustrating for them. With a finger spacer and a lined whiteboard, my students can practice writing skills, which include the concept of proper spacing.
Your donations will make a difference in the lives of our children with severe disabilities by providing them with resources to support their path to becoming independent individuals.
