Special Education- Anger Management Library

My students need books on anger management, motivational posters, composition books to journal in and a storage cart.

My Students

Imagine feeling like an angry volcano, on the verge of erupting! Imagine feeling that way constantly in your primary years of schooling but would give anything to feel "normal."

My students (grades 2nd, 3rd, 4th) are in a self-contained class and struggle with anxiety disorders, conduct disorders, and a variety of other emotional disturbances.

Many of my students have experienced traumatic events already in their young lives. However, in the end, they are children who show up to school every day willing and eager to learn.

My Project

I've selected a variety of books on many different academic levels for my students that will engage them, while teaching them the many anger management skills that we take for granted. My students will be able to learn the steps to getting anger under control, to problem-solving techniques, ways to deal with grownups who get angry, recognizing body language warning signs, and much more. The best part of these books are that not only can I read them to a group of students, but many of them are on their reading levels. I hope to display the books and encourage the students to read them on their own as well. I've also selected posters that will help provide a visual explanation of primary (underlying) emotions versus secondary emotions. It is also useful in helping children identify their body's physical reactions to emotions, making emotional intelligence and feeling identification easier.

The impact that these resources will have on my students will last them well beyond the school year, but well into their lives.

After all, controlling our emotions and managing our anger is life skill we all need.
