Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The vision for a Community Based Instruction class is to provide our children with moderate to severe disabilities the skills and knowledge needed to meaningfully participate and live in their environments. It's difficult to teach those skills when resources are so limited.
Our school is a brand new school located in a low income neighborhood.
I teach a moderate/severe special education class with focus on community based instruction for high school students. The students in my class are socially and economically disadvantaged boys with moderate to severe disabilities ranging from autism to severe mental retardation. Although the odds are against them, these boys are eager to learn and become independent individuals. They enjoy dancing, singing, reading, cooking, and socializing.
My Project
Since our school is a brand new school, we have limited resources and supplies to get us started. And due to lack of funding and budge cuts, the money that was allocated to us is not enough to cover for all needed materials such as calculators, folders, papers, etc. These basic materials help support and enhance our children's learning by providing them with the necessary supplies to do school assignments. Your donations would mean a lot to us.
Your donations will make a difference in the lives of our children with severe disabilities by providing them with the basic resources and supplies to support their path to becoming independent individuals.
