My Students
My students are enrolled in the Preschool Program for Children with Disabilities (PPCD), which is a part of the Special Education Department. I have two half-day classes that consists of up to twelve Phenomenal Preschoolers who are Curious and Delightful! My students explore learning through sensory activities, hands-on instruction, songs, and learning through play. Some of my students communicate through speech, some through communication devices, some through sign language, and some through communication boards. Each of my students is unique and spectacular in their own way! Their wide smiles and whimsical giggles lets me know they are enjoying our learning. We spend each day focusing on meeting goals and having fun while we do it!
My Project
My students are unique learners that retain information through interactive, visual, and specific materials. The materials provided will allow me to create adapted books, which are made so that students can take an active part in literacy. For example, a student may read a fairy tale book, which has been adapted by adding Velcro dots on each page, so that students can add pictures that will allow them to participate in reading the book. Books allow students to learn, experience, imagine and understand. Our area continues to recover and rebuild from Hurricane Harvey and for many students books helped process what occurred. For students with disabilities, interactive books are important to their learning since it increases their participation and assists with retaining the new information they are learning.
