My Students

Motivating, engaging books are the best way for kids to fall in love with reading!

Our school is home to about 300 students in a high poverty, inner city neighborhood.

Our school is highly mobile with almost 20% of our students experiencing homelessness. Despite the challenges that our students face, they are incredibly resilient. The students that learn in my classroom all have low incidence disabilities such as Autism Spectrum Disorders, Intellectual Disabilities, and Down Syndrome. Their vivacious personalities, zest for life, and boldness are a huge part of our school culture. They do not let developmental delays or poverty get in the way of their learning. I truly LOVE my job as their teacher and cannot imagine teaching a different group of children.

My Project

We are requesting motivating books for our class. My students LOVE to be read to, especially books with rhymes and fun characters that they are engaged by. They love the Pete the Cat series, as well as the "How Do Dinosaurs?" books. We are targeting sequencing in books (first, next, then, last), and we would love to use the "There Was an Old Lady" books to help us with this important literacy skill. Help us get books that will engage, inspire, and motivate my students!

Books are a necessity in any school.

With our small budget, we desperately need help to obtain more books that motivate and engage my needy students. These books will get then to fall in love with reading. Thank you for considering a donation to my deserving students!
