My Students
Special needs students need a range of art materials and tools in order to have an interactive creative experience in art class that holds their attention.
We are a D75 Special Education school that serves children with multiple issues including Mental Retardation and Autism.
Our children are taught in small groups of 6 or 12. They are very lucky to have both art and music twice a week. This is a great way for us teachers to really get to know the students. The art and music teachers work together on developing complementary and related curricula to enhance the kid's creative experiences.
My Project
Our kids need to be able to have an engaging art experience, and that means having lots of different kinds of materials and lots of different tools. A variety of tools and materials enables the kids to continue to be engaged in creative process for longer periods of time. Clay is perfect!
Our Special Needs Students love things that are tactile and colorful, which in turn helps them engage and learn to focus.
The opportunity to grow creatively as part of their school experience enriches our student's lives.
