Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our school is a barrier-free, Title I funded school, home to over fifteen hundred students, with over seventy languages spoken. My children are resilient, dedicated, and determined to overcome any obstacles that they may need to overcome to soar to new heights. I am in awe of their perseverance and how they strive to be the best possible. To say that I am proud to be their teacher is truly an understatement.

With all that has been going on in this world, it is imperative that I diligently work towards building a deep appreciation for the varying cultures in our community.

This will be year 3 of celebrating and honoring our children's cultures. I teach in one of the most diverse school systems in the country and there are more than 70 languages spoken in my school and throughout our community. Therefore, my second grade classroom is a diverse and wonderful place for students to learn. These trees will be delivered to the children and they will be given international flags to decorate their trees. The children will also create their own masterpieces to place on the trees to represent their cultural identity. As I have a very diverse class that has different beliefs, the children will create cultural trees and share their creations with our school community. Information on their community service project about their culture will be presented so that all of us can be informed and gain a greater appreciation about cultures that differ from our own while gaining a newfound appreciation of one another. This project will allow me to establish an inclusive environment early on in my classroom. Their masterpieces will be shared throughout our community. Our leaders are taking the first steps toward building a better community for all.
