Help me give my students activities such as the early language activity boxes and prepositional words resource box to support their vocabulary and receptive and expressive language skills in order to progress in the general curriculum.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
COVID-19 has significantly impacted my students’ learning over the past year and a half due to the lack of socialization with peers and teachers, and students becoming dependent on spending hours on end in front of screens. These language activities and manipulatives will give my students the resources they need to keep them engaged in therapy and support their vocabulary and expressive language skills.
A number of recent studies have shown that through lack of social interactions, mask wearing, and passive screen time, our early language learners are suffering a negative impact on language development!
I love to include sensory activities to support my student’s language goals. Molding sand, slime, and water beads are easy ways to increase level of participation while throwing in vocabulary picture cards, category picture cards, wh- question picture cards, etc. What’s inside- Soft feely box is another great sensory activity to support my student’s language goals that focus on naming objects, describing, answering wh- questions, and making predictions.
Many of my students need visual supports when working on sentence structure and creating grammatically correct sentences. The Storyteller Writing Box and Sequence Write Story Tiles would be excellent resources to use for my students who need help putting their words in the correct order.
