Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
A typical day in my classroom is to get them breakfast if needed and right to work. We cover the regular subjects like Math, Reading/Writing. They dream of being policeman, vets, Nascar and video game makers. To fulfill those dreams, we work to build confidence and maximize their abilities each day.
My students are full of energy each day that they arrive.
They come to school for many reasons. To learn? Absolutely! They also come for the friendships they have. They come because the classroom is a comfortable and safe place. We provide free breakfast based on need for many, many students. I have students at all levels of reading. I have highly proficient readers who truly love helping their classmates who struggle with reading and confidence. Those who struggle in reading often struggle in other subjects as well. They have dreams like everyone else. I work each day to open wide their view of their futures.
My Project
My 4th graders have many expectations ahead of them. I have requested 3 i-pads for a number of reasons. We will have the ability to film them speaking through speeches and poetry. Reader's theater and reports on Science and Social Studies are also enhanced with this technology. Where I teach, technology is something we have but often are limited in the turns we get. I believe the use of this technology will open a new world for many of them. Games on a phone might be their limited experience. Using this for a visual arts connection will help them surge higher. They will see where they need improvement. They will hear where they sound really good. They will see finished projects they did. They will discover what they can accomplish and work with others to achieve goals. Their writing and speaking progress will be right in front of them. This visual potential I believe has no ceiling. We have a vision of being problem solvers alongside with continuously gaining knowledge. IMPACT!
My students often struggle to see their futures.
They have dreams for sure, yet the confidence sometimes wanes. Donations like these strengthened the potential of building that confidence. Community building within a diverse classroom will also be a by-product of these donations. They will feel successful as they can work to improve in all subjects and work together to build a great school. Their generation will be successful academically, emotionally and socially to better each family.
