Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Learning a new language starts with listening and speaking. In my Mandarin Dual Language class, students do not have sound quality equipment to listen to the target language.
Non-native Mandarin learners are excited about learning Mandarin.
Being in a Title One school, they do not have the resources needed to meet their learning needs. My Transitional Kindergarten & 5 years old Kindergarten kids love to sing, dance, and act as they learn. They get excited when they have opportunities to put on a show - in MANDARIN!
My Project
The iPod has so many functions that can promote language learners:
1. Voice recording:
a) I can record myself reading teacher created Mandarin text and email to the parents. Students can practice at home by listening to the recording.
b) Students can sing Mandarin songs and keep a personal copy to keep forever.
c) I can use it as a way of assessing students' speaking and listening ability.
2. Video recording:
I often record my lesson as way for me to reflect and for students to observe themselves.
3. Speakers:
It will be used for singing, dancing, as part of the journey to learning new language.
These materials will make a difference in the daily learning environment of the classroom.
It will empower language learning and excite students. It can also be applied to all areas of academic subjects & contents.
