My Students

I have been so fortunate to teach curious passionate children for 15 years as a science cluster teacher for grades K-5. When I was hired, I was shown a stairwell where my "teaching materials" were kept and was told I would travel from room to room every period on three different floors (with no elevator)! I taught over 500 students every week for ten years and with perseverance, lots of organization and a bit of creativity I tried my best to deliver science curriculum and content. Now we have been blessed with a new building that houses our pre-K-8th grade students and I have a beautiful science lab where I hope to not only deliver content but experiences as well!

It truly touches me to be a role model and inspiration for these children year after year, watching them grow and become young adults, and even when they move onto our middle school come back to visit me, help out in my class, take in the new thematic decor, feed our pets, or the best is when they just want to be a part of my lessons and activities and see what's happening in the room!

My Project

For years I have taught electricity concepts using the standard battery, mini lightbulb and alligator clips. This was sufficient to meet the standards but lacked creativity. Last year one of my students brought in a Snap Circuits board to show the class and that's when SPARKS went off. This STEM product is a captivating way to teach how to build electric circuits and energy concepts. Students are truly engaged in the construction process and can articulate their ideas clearly after the task. Not only does this address science but engineering and technology as well. It is a stimulating addition to our fourth grade curriculum.
