I want to welcome children into the magic of the library with a colorful rug and twinkling fairy lights! The rug we chose has a rainbow paint set and bilingual English-Spanish numbers to help our new migrant students from Mexico and South America feel welcomed into our space.
Our library has a very cold floor, but a multicolored rug would brighten up and warm up our space!
I want to invite my three year-old students from the preschool upstairs to the big library, but first I will need to offer them a rug so students can feel safe and comfortable while listening to stories.
I offer students a special opportunity to make the library a home away from home. For some students, the library and school community is the safest and most cherished place they know. One in four students has experienced housing instability or homelessness, which makes it difficult for families to maintain home libraries or literacy routines. I want to offer students stability and access to books through. my reading rug time, a routine that they will cherish and savor through all of their school years, from age 3 to 8th grade!
