This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

This is my 10th year teaching. This year I am teaching AP Biology, Honors Biology and CP Biology.

My biology students need a countertop dishwasher and various microscope depression slides to observe living organisms.

The small countertop dishwasher will allow students to clean all of their glassware. I have 2 sections of AP Biology this year and the students will be using glassware a lot more than last year since I have more class periods needing to share lab equipment. The dishwasher can wash beakers, graduated cylinders, flasks, etc. in 30 minutes. Students will add their labware to the dishwasher and then add 5L of distilled water to the dishwasher and then click start at the end of the lab period. In between my 2 AP biology classes there is a lunch period so the glassware will be cleaned during lunch and then my next class will be able to retrieve their clean glassware for the period. Clean glassware is needed for cell energetics unit and ecology unit. Our sinks have hard water and the AP Biology labs require distilled water. We have a water distiller from a previous project. It will be amazing to have this dishwasher to complete our lab space.

The petrislides and microscope depression slides are different sizes allowing a variety of live organisms to be in there for observation. The largest one can hold living brine shrimp and worms. The smaller depression slides will hold different types of living algae. The students need depression slides with secure covers so that no water spills out and damages our microscopes and stereoscopes. These slides will be used in our diversity unit of living organisms.
