Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Our students love to learn, they thrive when developing and applying new skills, and they are resilient. We are an urban, low-income district, and the majority of our students come from hardworking immigrant families, many of whom speak a language other than English at home. Every student has access to the books, resources and opportunities in our elementary library media center, where they can have explore topics that interest them and participate in learning experiences that motivate them!
I would like to create a "Sparkle" cabinet in our library with personal care and hygiene items that students can access anytime they need something, whether they have run out at home or need to freshen up at school.
When students don't have to worry about hygiene and staying fresh at school and they feel their best, they will be more confident and able to focus on their learning. Students can come grab a hairbrush and elastics if they need a ponytail for P.E., or a toothbrush/toothpaste or deodorant if they want to freshen up. This initiative fits with our library's mission of making sure all students have acccess to every resource they might need to be successful.
