it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Middle school provides a wonderful opportunity to recapture the imaginations and creativity of our growing young adults in the area of Science. The lack of resources, lab space and content area schedules in many middle schools, has placed science investigations on the curriculum backburner and the domino effect is the loss of interest in science and the dwindling joy of what science offers.
The materials requested are intended to make science come alive in my classroom, where I have taken the initiative to implement a weekly lab experience for my science program, using limited materials that I find available.
The students and parents, are excited to be engaged in these hands-on investigations such as using the microscopes, triple beam balance, testing water quality, forces and motion etc.
The challenge is, these supplies are often limited when it comes to arranging labs for nearly 100 students in 5 classes. STEM is a big innovative push, but supplies are needed in our Title 1 School, to expose our underserved student population to be provided with equitable and relevant learning experiences. These experiences I seek to impart will prepare our students with strong foundational lab skills, essential problem solving and critical thinking habits as they engage in the scientific inquiry process.
