My Students
Do you remember when science and magic were synonymous? Students walk into a Chemistry class expecting flames and color changes. Science should inspire wonder and that's what these burners will do.
Science to them has been the toughest class.
They see science as a bunch of math and vocabulary that doesn't matter or impact their lives in any way. Most of them walk into class at the beginning thinking they're no good at science, but they just need to be brought back to that place where curiosity has free rein.
My Project
We will be using these burners to:
- apply real-world examples of stoichiometry calculations (everyone's favorite).
- watch metals flame all sorts of colors
- apply the concepts we learn and show why they matter.
This is how scientists are developed.
Most take it for granted that activities like flame tests are standard parts of most people's high school experience.
That is only with the right equipment, and I want to bring that experience to these students.
