My students need books! All the books in our school library were destroyed due to flooding of Hurricane Matthew. These books will be a great start to help build the collection of the library .

My Students
As a teacher librarian in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with positive and meaningful learning experiences.
I am looking to instill a love of reading in their hearts and make the library a fun and exciting place to learn.
Many of them are being raised in single-parent households, live in government housing and receive a free lunch based on their socioeconomic status. These things may prevent them from getting ahead early in life and may not provide them with the life experiences many of us see as "typical". From the minute they walk in the door of our school, we focus on their potential and growth while they are with us. We may not be able to control their home lives, however, we can certainly control their experience during the school day. By making the school environment a positive and inspiring place, We are hopeful to spark creativity in even our earliest learners to continue on a path of academic excellence!
My Project
Due to the recent flooding of Hurricane Matthew in our hometown, our school lost everything in its library. The kids of our school lost their homes and their books. These books will give the kids somewhere to start reading when we return to school. Some of these book titles include The Magic Tree House Book set, What Was...? Book Set, Clifford Book Set, and Dr. Seuss Book Set. They have a love for reading and coming to the library.
Great books will give them a place to go without leaving their seat.
My students have a love of reading and I want to continue that love even through this tough time. Your donation of these books will give students something to read when they finally get to return to school and continue their journey to academic success!
