This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We have been learning how to code in the classroom since the beginning of the year. The students are progressing nicely and they need activities to apply and support the skills they have already learned. The Sphero SPRK robots are a perfect tool for them to extend their coding knowledge.

These kids are hard workers!

They are ESL students looking for the opportunity to do something amazing. With limited funding they don't get the same opportunities other students do. The drive to learn in these kids is strong! They want to prove themselves day in and day out! We are in a low socioeconomic area where opportunity doesn't show its face. These students strive to show that one should not wait for opportunity, but should create it and seize it!

My Project

We are learning to write code once a week using different resources. Code.org, and Scratch are websites we use to learn the basics. The Sphero SPRK robots will be used in the classroom with the students as an extension of their coding experience. Code Masters will be able to take their skills to the next level while Code Rookies will be able review the basics in various ways using these robots.

Coding is part of a multitude of careers.

Exposing the kids to coding may spark an interest to continue working with it beyond what they learn in my classroom. It may open doors they may have never encountered without being exposed to it.
