This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our students are English language learners who have a thirst for learning. Our school is in a low-income​ urban neighborhood in Chicago. Ninety-eight percent of our school's students are native Spanish speakers and come from homes where English is not the primary language spoken. In some cases, school is the only place where these students can hear and use the English language.

My students learn best when they have hands on manipulatives to work with and finding resources in Spanish is not always easy!

My Project

Having hands on manipulatives in school helps tremendously! Students are more engaged and having that tactile experience helps support learning. Finding Spanish materials is hard and finding funding to buy these types of materials is even harder. These versatile tiles let students enjoy hands-on language-building activities—in Spanish! The set features all the tiles children need to build simple Spanish sentences, enhance vocabulary and more, including gender words like un, una, el and la…plus verb conjugations. I want students to use these tubs in centers or stations around the room. These word tiles will give students fun opportunities to read, build sentences, and support with writing sentences. Students will have fun interchanging the words to create new sentences.
