Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are hard working, enthusiastic students who need more resources to help them strengthen their skills. They are from an urban community with a low socioeconomic status. At 6 years old and in the first grade my students are just beginning to build their love for education and I want to continue to foster this passion as much as I can with a variety of different and exciting resources.
El Salvador, Puerto Rico, Ghana, and Mexico are just a few of the countries my students and their families have immigrated from.
We are a world of learners with different backgrounds, experiences and interests and I would like to build upon that as much as I can.
My Project
A majority of my students and their families speak Spanish at home as their first language. Many of my parents feel like they can not be a part of their children's education because of the language barrier
I want to expand my Spanish book resources to encourage parents' to read with their children at home to foster a positive relationship and love for reading.
Having popular children books that they love such as Llama Llama and Mo Willems and books in Spanish will provide great excitement. Being able to read these beloved titles in both English and Spanish will help my students understand it is a great thing to bilingual and I want to foster both languages as much as possible.
