This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Have you ever traveled to a foreign country where you were unable to speak the language? If you know how difficult this is, you can imagine how challenging it is for my Spanish-speaking kindergarteners to begin attending an English-speaking school.

Fortunately, my district's bilingual program makes it possible for my kindergarteners to first learn skills in Spanish, and then transfer this knowledge to English.

Not only does this make the transition to kindergarten smoother for my students, but it also sets them up to become successful bilingual members of society.

My Project

In my bilingual kindergarten classroom, students need lots of opportunities to hear books read aloud and read books themselves. However, I have few books in Spanish at the moment - most of the books in our classroom are in English. In order for my students to fully benefit from the bilingual program, they need books written in Spanish.

We know that being bilingual is an asset, and my students are fortunate to be able to participate in a bilingual program.

Donating to my project will help them develop as young readers and writers, and set them up for future success in school!
