Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I am asking for support in purchasing supplemental Spanish language books for our kinder through fifth grade students, and their families to use in order to access core English Language and Reading curriculum. I have put together a comprehensive list of book titles that are used in the current English only units of study in at each grade level.
My goal is for teachers to have the resources to provide the titles in Spanish to students who are newcomers or are still learning the English language so that those students can access the topic and themes discussed in the curriculum before having to learn the English vocabulary.
Giving students prior knowledge allows them to come into the classroom feeling more confident and ready to participate and engage in learning. I am hoping this is going to become a stepping stone to offering a more equitable classroom here at EPACS.
