My Project

In our ICT classroom, we have the privilege of working with a diverse group of students, including both general education and ENL (English as a New Language) learners. This diversity brings a wealth of perspectives and experiences that make our classroom a vibrant and inclusive community. My students' enthusiasm for learning and their ability to support one another create an inspiring environment that I am proud to be a part of.

I am seeking funding for a class set of The Nickel Boys by Colson Whitehead in Spanish.

This powerful novel offers an exploration of themes like justice, resilience, and the impact of history on the present. By providing the book in Spanish, we ensure that our ENL students can fully engage with the text in their native language, fostering comprehension and encouraging meaningful participation in class discussions. This dual-language approach not only supports language acquisition but also promotes inclusivity and cultural appreciation.

The goals for this project are to deepen students' understanding of historical and social issues, enhance critical thinking and analytical skills, and support language development for our ENL students. By reading The Nickel Boys, students will have the opportunity to connect the novel's themes to their own experiences and engage in thoughtful discussions about justice and identity. This project aims to empower students by providing them with access to literature that resonates with their diverse backgrounds and challenges them to think critically.

What makes my students truly special is their resilience and eagerness to learn from one another's experiences. They are open-minded, empathetic, and driven to explore complex ideas.
