Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am building a Spanish classroom library designed specifically for my heritage and native Spanish-speaking students. Many of my students already speak Spanish at home, and several are recent immigrants who are also learning English. While they may be fluent conversationally, they often have learning gaps in reading and writing, both in Spanish and English. A well-curated classroom library filled with high-interest books written in authentic Spanish will support their literacy development while honoring their identities and cultural backgrounds.

What I love most about my students is their resilience, curiosity, and pride in their heritage.

They bring rich cultural perspectives into the classroom, but many have experienced interrupted schooling or limited access to academic Spanish texts. This project will give them the opportunity to grow as readers and writers in their native language, helping to close those gaps while also building confidence and a love for reading.

The books I’m requesting will span a range of genres, novels, graphic novels, biographies, short stories, and non-fiction, to meet diverse interests and reading levels. These resources will allow students to see themselves reflected in the literature they read, making their learning experience more personal and empowering.

By supporting this project, you’ll be helping my students strengthen their bilingual abilities, improve academic outcomes, and feel seen, valued, and inspired in our classroom.
