Spanish Class Library Novels for Heritage Spanish Speakers

Help me give my students a range of Spanish novels they can choose from for our daily reading warm-up. I teach Heritage Spanish speakers, and some could benefit from graphic novels while others could benefit from advanced novels.

My Project

Hello! I teach Heritage Spanish classes in a middle school. As a daily warm-up, I encourage students to read for five to eight minutes from a Spanish novel. We then practice literacy skills such as summarizing, making predictions, describing characters, and sharing their opinions of the books.

I would love to expand our classroom library to have both a class set of the novel "Viral en Zik Zok" plus a variety of individual novels.

Once a week, we read a class novel that is accessible to all students. I would love to read the hilarious and relevant novel called "Viral en Zik Zok." This is a choose-your-own-adventure story, which involves a student and choices regarding social media. I would love to read it out loud with my students and vote on the choices the main character should make each day. I could teach lessons on both literacy and digital footprints.

For the rest of the week, students will all choose their own novels from our class library. I have students with a range of reading skills in Spanish. Some students have spoken the language their whole lives but are new to reading it, so graphic novels would be helpful for them. I also have students who just arrived from Spanish-speaking countries and rarely see Spanish books here, so I would love to also have advanced novels.

I have a class library already started, but many of my students were in my class last year and have read all of the books that are at a challenging level for them. With your help, we could offer them a variety of new novels, so all students can continue to read and improve their literacy skills. Thank you in advance if you can help!
