This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Kindergarten is awesome! My students are very eager to learn more and more everyday. They are extremely curious and they love to read!

I am a Kindergarten, bilingual teacher at a school where most of our students are struggling readers and are one or more years below grade level in reading.

It is my number one priority to get my students reading on grade level or above so that they are well prepared for first grade. I am at a low socioeconomic school where many of our students have tremendous learning gaps. Many of our students have difficult home lives, so it is extremely important to provide them with a safe, caring, and positive learning environment. My students love read-alongs and having the opportunity to choose books that interest them. I know that having new books for our new listening center will give them more variety for the various personalities in my classroom!

My Project

My students need to be exposed to reading in a variety of ways and having a variety of books for our listening work station will allow them to practice their reading and have a more hands-on approach in their learning. My students do not have many opportunities to use technology as a learning tool, and this will be an excellent way to integrate reading and technology.

It is imperative that we instill the love of reading in our students as early as possible.

Students should see reading as a way to see the world and to understand it. They should want to read, because they are curious and not because they have to. The more my students are exposed to books whether it be online, paperback books, or audio books, the more they will grow and improve in everything that they do.
