Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach in a dual language school with a 69% population to be Hispanic/Latinos students. My students are eager language learners who are learning to become proficient in English as well as in Spanish. Introducing Spanish authors will enrich students learning while making personal connections as they read.

My students come from one of the poorest districts in the country, many are English Language Learners and are culturally diverse, and maintaining a culturally relevant classroom is a challenge.

My Project

Having Spanish authors in the classroom will allow my students to make personal connections. Student don’t usually see Spanish authors in the classroom that they can relate with. I want to make sure to have a library expose to a diverse of reading that students can enjoy in their own native language. Often time students are expose to a translations, but in my classroom I want to be inclusive by providing my Spanish speakers a unique library with book of Spanish authors. I want to promote reading and literacy by encouraging students to read while learning and making personal connection.
