This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students have a huge end of the year project that includes creating a physical representation of their Mars Colony. Students spend three days building a scale model of a colony that would support life on Mars. They study history's examples of colonization, write business proposals and investor pitches in English, calculate caloric needs and square footage in math, and research the energy and oxygen needs in science for their new Mars colony.
Then they use all of this information to create a scale model of their colony, create a business website, and pitch their colony to the other student "investors" as their big end of the year EXPO!
Students spend the end of the year SUPER engaged with this cross-curricular project: they do a little bit of their project in English, math, history and science in groups. The end of the year is a celebration of glitter, paint, cardboard, advertising pitches, science talk, website creation, and so much more! Please help make it possible for ALL my students to have good quality materials to make their MARS colony!
