My Students
"Good order is the foundation of all things."--Edmund Burke--
My classroom is a busy place that is full of activity. Hand lenses, science journals, pattern blocks, oh my! We need more space to put all of our materials!
I teach 25 curious third grade scientists in a small Title 1 school with approximately 350 students and an amazing and supportive principal.
My students are eager to learn and their brains are sponges that absorb any and all information given to them. Everything is a potential investigation/experiment to them, so I strive to provide my students with as many learning and project based opportunities as possible. I enhance the school curriculum and students' intrinsic motivation to learn more by infusing STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) correlations and activities whenever possible. Because of our size, funding levels are not as high as other schools that have larger enrollments, so grants become an integral part of how I obtain materials to supplement learning experiences. I truly believe that the future lies in our children, that they have virtually unlimited potential, and my job is to enable them to reach it.
My Project
I am requesting Seat Sacks and storage bins to help keep my students organized and ready to learn. The students will just hang these sacks on the backs of their chairs and put their essential supplies in them and keep them right at their hands. These sacks will keep the inside of their desks organized and will eliminate the "I can't find that" moments and therefore providing for more time on task. My students are always involved in many hands-on, project based activities. Their tables are inundated with textbooks, notebooks, pencil cases, Science tools and Math manipulatives. The seat sacks are a great way to for them to learn how organize their work and supplies as well as avoid misplacing any important materials or handouts, and space will be freed up on their desks for experiments and investigations. In addition, the storage bins requested will be used to keep math and literacy center materials neat and easily accessible during the day. What a concept: an organized classroom!
Storage space is at a minimum in my classroom because my school is an older building.
The seat sacks and storage bins will keep my students organized and ready to learn! My goal with these storage solutions is to make sure that my students stay on task and not always searching for supplies. More time on task equals more learning!
