Help me give my students books about space to foster curiosity about the unknown and help them realize the huge possibilities of the universe we inhabit.
Okay, space books are not the final reading frontier, but catchy titles are not easy to come by. Every year, I reinvent the library with a different theme to stimulate interest among students. After reviewing circulation data from this past school year, I realized that students are keenly interested in two things, topics that drove them to compete for books in these subjects. One of those topics is space. I can decorate the library to reflect that interest for the new school year, but I need assistance in stocking enough books about that "final frontier."
Students are drawn to books about space, in part, because they are fascinated by things that are bigger than them, things that spark their curiosity about the possibilities of the world around them.
The books that are requested in this project were chosen to offer them high-quality and novel approaches to a topic that fascinates them. Not only will these selections feed that curiosity, but they will also create an understanding that answers to fun and magic are found in books. That sense of satisfaction with a book in their hands will drive them onto the next book and the next and the next, sparking a love of reading that started at this point with your generosity.
