South Phoenix Students Need Backpacks!

My Project

It's time to learn and grow together again! In other words, Back to School is upon us.

Backpacks are an essential resource for success during the year for our middle school students.

They hold assignments, books, writing supplies, binders, and many other useful items. We teach "Be Responsible" as one of our core values. Having a backpack allows the student to have all of his or her resources in one place, take home assignments and necessary items, and bring them back completed. The students will also learn organizational skills and accountability from having access to backpacks. These life skills will help prepare them for high school in a few years and college thereafter.

Unfortunately, many of our families do not have the extra money to provide these critical new backpacks. It is even tougher currently due to the added economic impact of the COVID pandemic. We are a Title I school located in a low socioeconomic area with 100% of our students receiving free breakfast and lunch. We also provide free uniforms. The student population consists of homeless students, students in group homes, historically underserved youth, and low-income families. Despite several obstacles (such as lack of resources), our students are a perfect example of ALL STUDENTS can learn and their success is proof. They make me so proud. Equipping our students most in need with a backpack would ease their mind and allow them to relax and be ready to learn! These backpacks will help ensure a wonderful start to the year.
