Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach 8th grade math in the Inner Bronx, and too many of my students are far behind their grade level. Our students, however, are very creative. They love to express themselves. Even so, unlike most suburban schools that have access to computers and smart boards, etc., to work out math problems, all we have is an old style chalk board.
I want to tap into the students creativity. We cannot afford computers but manipulative's are inexpensive. Students learn by touching and doing. I need a manipulative kit to teach the students probability. Each group will have a different station and be able to play with and learn the math. Probability is so important for inner city students since there chances of success are harder.
After 30 minutes, the students will rotate to a different station. They will teach it back and create their own game after. The kits will be used each year and by every Math teacher.
