Souping Up Our Kindergarten Technology Center For The 21st Century

My Students

I have 32 wonderful and bright students. They are all eager to learn many things in kindergarten. As a new teacher, I am motivated to bring new and exciting ideas into the classroom. I teach low-income students in a Chicago neighborhood. My school is great; unfortunately, it lacks necessary funding that is greatly needed. The principal and the staff are great to work with. We all help each other in order to benefit student learning, which is most important to me as an educator. Without funding, the students are not given the accurate amount of supplies needed to complete the school year.

I teach ESL students reading, math, writing, social studies, and science.

My students love participating in centers for reading and math, but I would love to incorporate a writing center filled with the right materials.

My Project

My students recently funded five Chromebook laptops through Donors Choose for our technology center and we could not be more thrilled! In addition to the laptops, my student need headphones and mouse devices. My students attend public school in a low income neighborhood in Chicago. CPS and the state have minimized our school budget and our funding is at an all time low. My school does not have the luxury of having computers for our kindergarten students to use. As we sail through the 21st century, technology in the classroom is becoming more necessary and predominant and I would love it if my students could join in on that!

By helping me embrace and integrate technology in the classroom, we are setting my students up for a successful life outside of school.

I believe that adding technology in the classroom will make learning more interesting and fun! Subjects that may seem boring or challenging can become more motivating with virtual lessons, computer games, and read alouds.

With this donation, my students with be able to use the computers without distracting any of the other students by using the headphones. When learning to use a laptop, the mouse pad is often difficult to use in the beginning. This is why I have asked for a donation towards mouse devices for the students to use. Any donation towards my project will potentially help my students move towards a better and more motivating classroom environment. Thank you!
