This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The word resilient comes to mind when I try to describe my students; specially when I consider the struggles they face individually and as a community. My students continue to work and dream beyond their lack of access to, healthy foods, affordable living conditions, limited access to art and music. Thanks to Disney Musicals in School's funding our students' dreams are becoming a reality.
I'm inspired by each student's journey as they watch the movie, study the script, learn the music and the choreography simply to learn their character.
The work they are putting in is helping them directly in the subjects they are struggling in, and making them successful at learning.
My Project
We are building a musical theater program intending to share with our Far Rockaway community. To make our program on-the-go, we need a portable sound system that will help project voices and music in different staging scenarios. whether in the park, or in a senior center, or the school auditorium, they will be heard.
Students will be more confident knowing their voice will be heard.
Also, the audience will greatly enjoy a performance and clearly hear their children perform. The headset and lavalier microphones will amplify the main characters' solos and spoken parts. To accomplish this, we need your help.
This would give us a great start. Our first ever performances are scheduled for May 30th and 31st, and would love for you to join us.
For many communities, a musical theater program might not be a significant step, but for The Ocean School community it is a giant one. Not only our access to musical theater is limited physically by our distance from NYC, but it is not accessible in our local schools or local places to enjoy. So your help is really important. Would you help us in this initial step, as we share the joy of musical theater with our community?
